Individual EMDR Therapy in Birmingham
You don't need to undertake an EMDR Intensive to have EMDR with me. Regular, individually paced appointments (weekly or fortnightly) are a complete treatment pathway, and how most clients are seen.
Individual EMDR Therapy
£120 60 minutes
Regular, individually paced EMDR treatment.
Extended Individual EMDR Therapy
£170 90 minutes
Additional therapeutic time within a single appointment, where clinically appropriate.
A longer appointment may provide additional time for preparation, therapeutic work, processing where appropriate, regulation and appropriate closure. It is not a faster, more effective or superior form of treatment, simply a longer one. Which length suits you is discussed at assessment and can also vary session to session according to clinical need.
With at least 48 hours' notice, appointments may be cancelled or rescheduled without a contractual cancellation charge. See the Terms & Conditions for the full position, including what applies with less notice or non-attendance.
What Individual EMDR Therapy Involves
Following your Comprehensive Psychological Needs & EMDR Suitability Assessment, ongoing appointments typically move through several strands of work, not always in a strict order: continued formulation as understanding of your history deepens; preparation and resource development, building the grounding and emotional-regulation capacity that trauma processing requires; structured EMDR processing where you're ready for it; and appropriate closure at the end of each session, so you don't leave mid-process. Progress is reviewed collaboratively as treatment continues, not assumed from a fixed plan.
Pacing and What Happens Between Appointments
Sessions are paced according to what you can tolerate, not a fixed protocol. Between appointments, it's common to notice things settling gradually, or occasionally feeling more unsettled before they ease; both are a normal part of processing. This is discussed as part of ongoing work, not left for you to interpret alone.
Why Treatment Length Can't Be Predetermined
This practice does not offer fixed-session packages (6, 8, 10 or 12 sessions) because how many appointments someone needs depends on their history, the complexity of what's being addressed, and how treatment actually progresses, none of which can be known in advance. Length is reviewed as you go, not sold upfront.
Individual EMDR vs EMDR Intensive Therapy
Both are genuine EMDR treatment formats: neither is a lesser version of the other. Individual appointments spread treatment across regular sessions with time to integrate between them; an Intensive concentrates the same kind of clinical work into consecutive extended days. Which suits you is a clinical and personal decision made at assessment, not a hierarchy of quality.
In-Person in Birmingham, or Online
Individual EMDR Therapy is available face-to-face at Woodbrooke Centre, 1046 Bristol Road, Birmingham B29 6LJ, and online across the UK where clinically appropriate: suitability for online sessions is discussed at assessment. See Online EMDR Therapy UK for more on how this works.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to do an EMDR Intensive to have EMDR with you?
No. Regular Individual EMDR Therapy is a complete treatment pathway in its own right, not a lesser alternative to an Intensive. Most clients are seen this way.
How do I choose between 60 and 90 minutes?
This is discussed at assessment. A 90-minute appointment provides more time within a single session; it isn't a faster or more effective form of treatment, simply a longer one.
How many sessions will I need?
This can't be predetermined: it depends on your history and how treatment progresses, and is reviewed collaboratively rather than fixed in advance.
Start With an Assessment
Individual EMDR Therapy begins with the Comprehensive Psychological Needs & EMDR Suitability Assessment, which considers your history and goals before any treatment format is agreed.
